Wichita Falls Faith Mission is seeking to raise $5,517,568. Of this total, $5,080,000 will be used to expand and renovate our facilities, while $437,568 will cover three years of operating costs for the new Mothers with Children addition. The most significant portion—$3,250,000—will be dedicated to building a new wing at Faith Refuge for homeless mothers with children. The remaining funds will support essential facility upgrades at Faith Mission and Faith Refuge, including HVAC system replacements, dormitory renovations, and parking improvements. These enhancements are critical to continuing our mission to provide Christ-centered programs and services that lead the homeless and addicted toward self-sufficiency.

At Faith Refuge, we must turn away homeless mothers with children due to limited space. Many families stay here for over three months because of scarce affordable housing, further restricting our capacity to help new families in crisis.
Our capital campaign project will add 8,000 square feet of new space and remodel 2,000 square feet of existing facilities at Faith Refuge to create:
This expansion will help us help families and provide comprehensive shelter services to mothers and children in their time of need.

Our women's dormitory currently has 36 bunk beds, which presents significant accessibility challenges. Many residents cannot safely climb to the top bunks, forcing us to place mattresses on the floor — a temporary solution compromising safety and dignity.
The planned upgrade will replace these problematic bunk beds with more accessible sleeping arrangements, ensuring all women have proper, dignified bed access.

This comprehensive renovation addresses critical issues throughout the dormitory. While we've made repairs over time, most fixtures remain original, and floor conditions pose safety hazards.
The current sleeping arrangements—metal bunk beds donated by the Salvation Army—lack safety rails and are difficult to access. Some residents must sleep on floor mattresses because they cannot safely climb to upper bunks.
We will replace these with a "Step-Up" system featuring built-in stairs, making top bunks accessible while enhancing privacy and dignity for all residents.

Volunteers are the backbone of our meal service, preparing and serving 80% of evening meals across our two shelters—approximately 45,000 meals annually. Their dedication significantly reduces our food and labor costs, allowing us to direct more resources to essential programs and services. Beyond meals, volunteers teach classes, lead chapel services, and provide valuable assistance, enabling our staff to focus on meaningful guest interactions.
To improve volunteer safety and convenience, we plan to create a dedicated parking area at the southeast corner of our property (14th and Travis). This designated space will make it easier for volunteers to enter and exit the building safely and efficiently unload food supplies for meal preparation.

Faith Mission, the men’s shelter at 1300 Travis, opened in 1988. In the past 37 years, the HVAC system has been updated once. The current units are over 20 years old and have been operating seven days a week, 24 hours a day during that time. During a 24-hour period, we accommodate between 80 and 100 men who sleep, eat, and receive other services on our premises. Surviving without heat or air conditioning would be nearly impossible. Given the size of our annual repair bills, we aren’t far from facing that situation. Additionally, newer units would be more energy efficient.

The weather has damaged the façade, including the main entrance doors and the exterior bathroom door. To prevent further deterioration, these exterior walls and door systems will need to be replaced or repaired, and awnings will need to be installed above them. Additionally, the sign at the front of the building is beyond repair.

This would involve new lighting, carpeting, and individual chairs to replace the old pews. Removing the pews would open up more possibilities for multi-use in this space.

When Latedra and her three young children found themselves living in their car in Florida, she never imagined that a leap of faith would lead them to Wichita Falls. After six months of homelessness – three months in their car and three months hopping between hotels – Latedra made the brave decision to drive 17 hours to Texas based on a friend's recommendation.
Though she initially found housing and work in Wichita Falls, unexpected circumstances left her family facing homelessness once again. That's when she discovered Faith Refuge through a 211 call. From her very first interaction with the staff, Latedra found the support her family desperately needed.
"The staff here is just awesome. Some of them really uplift you," Latedra shares. During her seven-month stay, Faith Refuge provided not only shelter but also helped enroll her children in school, arranged transportation, and assisted with clothing needs. The shelter's Christmas program even ensured her children had a joyful holiday.
"Without Faith Refuge, I have no idea where we would be."
Today, Latedra is preparing to move into her own home and has secured a work-from-home position that will allow her to care for her children. "Without Faith Refuge, I have no idea where we would be," she reflects. "I'm so used to doing things on my own, but for them to help us in this way – it's awesome."
